Caught the pilot last night. Surprisingly pretty to look at, considering the gray, desaturated color palette, which evokes an effect more ethereal than murky. Tons of gorgeous widescreen compositions.
Script and performances are quite understated, leaving the horror of the murder to stand on its own. When the trunk is finally opened, we get a lingering look at the body submerged, and hear the gentle sluice of the water draining away.
Matt Zoller Seitz has more. Suffice it to say, I'm onboard for now.

I hadn't heard of this one before but after reading your post I checked out the description on AMC's website. Considering how much I've loved The Walking Dead and Breaking Bad (both from AMC) I think this is worth a look.
I thought this was pretty good. It reminded me of a real-world "Twin Peaks", in a way. Which I admit is an easy comparison, but I believe it's still pretty apt.

The Danish original was shown on UK TV, 20 hour episodes, the best thing I have seen in ages... there is a sort of Twin peaks quote in the final credits, a close up of the victims face in dark blue tones.
