I just realized this "candidate" business is the "ZOMG Final Cylon!!1!" deal all over again. For some people, I suppose that sort of thing is all great fun, or even the main draw. Silly as it seems, I can't really begrudge them that (fans nor creators).

Unfortunately, at the time the fan discussions (and show writing) moved away from the subtle in-references (for example, the hieroglyphics in the hatch countdown) to this 'who is the candidate?!?' conversation.
Too bad, as I really enjoyed all the in-world cross references. These were basically gone in the last two seasons.
