Oh no. Today we lost one of my favorites, a man who made the "groovy age of horror" immeasurably groovier. Thanks to absence from El Blog Ausente for letting me know.
Here's commiserating with my pals from Eurotrash Paradise, whose enjoyment and discussion of Naschy have been so integral to my own appreciation for the man. Of those who have blogs:
- David Zuzelo (Tomb It May Concern)
- Dan Taylor (Exploitation Retrospect)
- Holger Haase (Hammer and Beyond)
Other appreciations:
I'm sure there will be others as the sad news spreads.
Here's my favorite post I did about him, comparing Klimovsky's Werewolf Shadow with Naschy's later remake Night of the Werewolf, both excellent in their own ways.

Major bummer. "Horror Rises From The Tomb" is one of my favorite genre films.
RIP
Very sad. I only discovered Naschy a few years ago, on an episode of Offbeat Cinema, I think. Only a couple of his DVDs in my collection. This was a shocking thinkg to find, because this is my first visit to this blog, ironically. Though I've had very little exposure to him, Paul Naschy definitely made an impression on me.
Did you know that Naschy also wrote a number of Western novels? I'm trying to track them down. Hopefully, they're as interesting as his films.

Atte: ODISEO.
Naschy was my kind of movie maker. I enjoy his films more than 99% of what is put out these days. He will be missed.
In terms of his physicality and obvious enthusiasm for the role, I think Naschy was a better screen werewolf than Lon Chaney, Jr.
Adios, Hombre Lobo!
