What's Groovy
In brief . . .
Sex Machine!
The Legion of Frankenstein (see this key of all the creatures featured)!
Naschy's Night of the Werewolf, "derivative"?!? With all due respect to Tim Lucas, that's really too uncharitable. Granted, Naschy lovingly shows off his influences, making it easy for critics to play gotcha, but I'd say he does something special with them here. (P.S.--belated congratulations to Tim on finishing the BAVA BOOK!! Looking forward to it!)

Thanks, Curt! The opening credits /scene are up on my blog.
I was using the word "derivative" factually, Curt, not in a nasty or condescending way. It should be obvious from my blog on NIGHT OF THE WEREWOLF that I agree it's something special; I wrote about it with a lot of enthusiasm.
Thanks for your comment on the book!
Sorry if I misunderstood, Tim--to be fair and put the word in context:
[Naschy] remains a derivative and somewhat lazy writer, but what the film lacks in originality is compensated by an open-hearted affection for and knowledge of the genre; the story unfolds almost as a series of winks from fan to fan.
I guess the "and somewhat lazy" part threw me off?
But otherwise, you're right--it is on the whole a very positive review. I can't wait for the disc! Lately, I've been enjoying your commentaries in the AB Bava box set. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the link! I'm a real bunny now!
